Heart of Neolithic Orkney is a World Heritage Site celebrating Stone Age remains of burial sites and stone circles in the United Kingdom. They are located on Mainland, an island in the Orkney group of islands in Scotland.
The Heart of Neolithic Orkney comprises four sites:
Maeshowe
An ancient burial site comprising an underground cairn and passage. These are aligned so as to receive the ray of the sun during the winter solstice. The site was ransacked by the Vikings who left runic graffitti on its walls.
Standing Stones of Stenness
These are megaliths. The tallest of them stand 6 meters (19 feet) high.
Ring of Brodgar This is a stone circle similar to Stonehenge. It is 104 meters in diameter and surrounded by a circular ditch that is 3 meters deep and 10 meters wide.
Skara Brae This is a cluster of ten stone huts forming an ancient village. They are some of the best-preserved structures from the Neolithic period.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
