Experiencing St Gregory Spa

St Gregory Spa, PARKROYAL Penang Resort (3 September 2016)


St Gregory is a luxury spa in Penang. Located within Parkroyal Penang Resort, it offers a holistic spa experience to cushion the rigours of the modern urban lifestyle. The St Gregory brand has garnered several awards over the years, among them the Weekly Spa Award (for the Indonesian Balinese Massage) from Singapore Women's Magazine in 2013, Harper's Bazaar Spa Award (Malaysia) in 2014, and the Most Blissful Body Treatment award, also from Harper's Bazaar, in 2015.

Most of the treatments at St Gregory are priced below RM500. During our visit (3 September 2016), those celebrating birthdays, wedding anniversaries or honeymoons, are treated to a 30% discount off normal prices. There is a wide range of treatments available including Aroma Stone Therapy, Indonesian Balinese Massage and Ayerveda therapy, among others.

This weekend my wife and I took time out to experience the pleasure of St Gregory's pampering. My wife is booked for the St Gregory Absolute Hydration treatment (RM410) while I am signed in for the True Organic Relaxation treatment (RM300) using St Gregory's newly included product line, Le Château du Bois, which has been a producer of organic cosmetics since 1890.

We fixed our appointment with St Gregory at 10:00 am sharp. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Jun, St Gregory's guest attendant, and were ushered in to our couples room. Our room has the aroma of various herbs. There is a hydrobath pool for hydrotherapy. The room has heavily tinted glass that offers views of Parkroyal's lush garden, with the sea in the horizon. Our room has its own shower and toilet, should we need to use such facilities.

Before our sessions begin, we were first served drinks. I selected lohankuo while my wife the chrysanthemum tea. Our drinks were served in fluted glass or antique Nyonya porcelain ware, which is also used to decorate the wall of St Gregory.

We put away our day clothes and donned the spa's bathrobes and disposable undergarments. Once we are ready, our masseurs came in to begin our session.

My Organic Relation body therapy is a full body massage. It was a most invigorating experience to lie there, relaxed, while soothing music plays in the background. My masseur begins at the foot. She did one foot and leg, then the other. Next she massaged the back and shoulder, followed by the front, and finally the forehead. Occasionally, she would inquire whether the pressure agreeable.

Meanwhile, my wife's session comprises facial treatment, including facial scrub mask, as well as shoulder and facial massage. That much I know, based on what she related to me.

At St Gregory spa, time seems to slip away with haste, and before long, our sessions were completed. We were once again served another cup of sweetened tea. Then we relaxed a bit more in our couples room before changing back into our day clothes.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our experience at St Gregroy Spa, and we thank Parkroyal Penang Resort for giving us the opportunity to give it a try.
