Restoran Pulau Roasted, Jelutong, Penang (23 November 2013)
Restoran Pulau Roasted (GPS: 5.39634, 100.31424) is a coffee shop in
Jelutong, Penang. I believe it is a rather new coffee shop because it was the first time I noticed it (but then again, I don't come to this part of town often). (I found out that it was previously known as
Yam Yam Sek Sek Cafe in 2017,
Single Bowl Cafe in 2015 and
Beyond Cafe in 2013 - so much for the turnover!
Restoran Pulau Roasted occupies the corner shoplot at
Taman Kheng Tian Apartments. We arrived there early in the morning, and saw that it has a Wan Tan Mee and a Pho Viet stall, so we decided to order one bowl of
wan than mee (medium size, RM4.50) and a bowl of pho (also medium size, at RM8.00).
The Wan Tan Mee is salty, which is fine by me (I like salty food, though not the healthiest thing), but too salty for my wife. Having said that, I have had better wan than mee elsewhere.
The Pho is the Vietnamese version of our gu bak koay teow. It is RM8, which is more or less about the price of a bowl of
gu bak koay teow. One thing I have to say is that it arrived with the lemon on a spoon submerged in the soup, so you wet your hands trying to squeeze it. The taste of the
pho is okay, but not so great that we would eagerly make a return trip.
