The
"Gedung Rumput" Sculpture is one of the 2013 steel-rod sculptures installed in
George Town, Penang. It graces a wall along
Queen Street, near the junction with
China Street.
The "Gedung Rumput" Sculpture depicts a cow toiling away carting grass (or hay, as the sculpture labels it) while its owner takes a slumber. Or so I thought! According to cartoonist
Reggie Lee, whose caricature the sculpture is based, the cow was trying to pole vault over the wall because the grass is greener on the other side while the owner is taking a slumber!

The "Gedung Rumput" Sculpture commemorates the Malay name of the street. Although the British named it after Queen Charlotte (Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, 1744-1818), the locals identify the street with the sheds used to keep grass to feed the lifestock, primarily the bullocks.
