George Town 3D Model (11 July 2014)
George Town 3D Model is a three-dimensional model of the Inner City of George Town. Created in 2011, it is now on permanent display at the
George Town Interpretative Centre, at the
Armenian Street Heritage Hotel.
The George Town 3D Model faithfully creates all the buildings within the Inner City up till 2011. The area interpretated in the 3D model are the ones bounded by
Transfer Road,
Prangin Road,
Prangin Road Ghaut, and a small section of
Burmah Road.
According to Freddie Lim Hock Lye, who created the model with a staff member, the model was done to the scale of 1:300. It was based on actual site measurements with plans obtained from the Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP). Made possible through a RM80,000 grant from Think City, the model took over a year to complete. Measuring 16 feet by 18 feet, it now forms the centrepiece of the interpretative centre.
