Ernest Zacharevic: 'Girl by the Sea' mural, 2013 (2 July 2014)
Girl by the Sea (GPS: 5.42415, 100.33256) is a now collapsed mural by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic in
George Town, Penang. It is painted on the remnant of a sea wall at
North Beach, just behind the
Leong Yin Kean Mansion. However, the mural is believed to have collapsed in February, 2017.
"Girl by the Sea" was painted in 2013, a year after Zacharevic received international acclaim for his initial series of murals coinciding with the 2012 George Town Festival. It depicts a pensive-looking girl looking out to the sea, while holding a balloon, now long deflated. The subject is said to be the same girl who appeared in
Little Girl in Blue.
