G.Next AIA Building

AIA Building, Bishop Street, Penang (11 July 2014)


The G.Next AIA Building (GPS: 5.41984, 100.34023) on Pitt Street, at the junction with Bishop Street, was the former office of the AIA Group in George Town, Penang. AIA stands for American International Assurance, an insurance company with operations in the Asia-Pacific region but, oddly enough, does not include the United States. (It was however a member of American International Group, of AIG, an American multinational insurance company trading on the New York Stock Exchange, but separated from it in 2009.)

In 2010, the Penang event company Penang G.Next took over the premises of AIA, which has since moved to occupy office space at Wisma Leader on Larut Road. Since then, the building has come to be known as G.Next AIA Building.
