Golden Sands Resort (GPS: 5.477050, 100.251639) is a resort hotel in Batu Ferringhi. As with Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa next door, it is owned and operated by Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts. It was officially opened on 15 March 1980 by the third Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late Tun Hussein Onn.
The hotel is conveniently located, with its entrance facing Batu Ferringhi village, while the golden sands of Batu Ferringhi is behind it. It opened in 1979, and according to what I learned, was built using profit generated by the highly successful Rasa Sayang Resort, which opened 6 years earlier. The 4-star Golden Sands Resort is surrounded by a lot of greenery, to give the area a leafy appearance.
Golden Sands Resort offers a selection of rooms and suites. They include the Superior Room, Deluxe Seafacing room, the Executive Seaview Room and the Executive Suite. Rooms and suites are equipped with LCD television with satellite channels, complimentary wifi access, DVD player, inhouse movie channels, audiovisual panel, bathrobes, slippers, toiletries, in-room locker, International Direct Dial telephone and mini refrigerator, among others.
The main eatery at Golden Sands Resort is Garden Café, located within the main building. A short distance away is Sigi's Bar & Grill. In addition, there is a lobby lounge and the air-conditioned Cool Lounge.
Among the facilities at Golden Sands Resort include a swimming pool, fitness centre, family entertainment centre, tennis courts, foot reflexology and a par-3 pitch-and-putt golf course.

The pool area of Golden Sands Resort is located within the crescent shape of the hotel building. It has a collection of thatch shelters in lieu of parasols. A plethora of deck chairs are laid out in the lawn between the pool area and the beach. There is a cabana by the pool where guests can buy ice cream and other snacks.

The beach at Golden Sands Resort
Spread out behind Golden Sands Resort is the Batu Ferringhi beach, a wide expanse of golden sand, punctuated nowadays with the huts of vendors providing watersports activities. The lawn area of Golden Sands is actually contiguous to that of Rasa Sayang, but rather than visiting the last hotel in my survey from the back, we exited Golden Sands from the front entrance to go next door.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
