Green Lane-Scotland Road Flyover

Green Lane-Scotland Road Flyover, as seen from Jalan Air Itam (23 September 2012)

The Green Lane-Scotland Road Flyover is one of the first flyovers in Penang. It provides grade-separation between Green Lane-Scotland Road from Jalan Air Itam, enabling uninterrupted traffic flow between Green Lane and Scotland Road.

The Green Lane-Scotland Road Flyover replaced the roundabout that used to be there until 1983. The roundabout was built when Green Lane and Scotland Road were realigned to meet. In the process, Han Chiang Road was formed from the rump of Green Lane, while Scotland Close (Solok Scotland) from the rump of Scotland Road.

Since the construction of the flyover in the 1980s, traffic in the area has continued to increase, resulting in daily congestion. This is worsen by the traffic lights at York Road and Hamilton Road, but due to the presence of schools there, could not be eliminated.
