The Penang bureau of Guang Ming Daily (27 January 2012)
Guang Ming Daily (GPS: 5.41581, 100.32408), or
Guang Ming Ribao, is a Penang-based Chinese language newspaper. Its bureau is on
Macalister Road, next to
Sin Chew Daily. Its history parallels that of Sin Chew Daily, as both were founded by the two Singapore philanthropist brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par.
Guang Ming Daily was originally known as Sin Pin Ribao. During the turbulent lat 1980s, it had to stop publishing and was only allowed to resume operations in December 1987, when it took on its present name, Guang Ming Daily.
Guang Ming Daily was acquired by Rimbunan Hijau, also called the RH Group, in 1992. This is also the parent company to Sin Chew Media, publisher of
Sin Chew Daily, the highest circulation Chinese newspaper in Malaysia.
