Gurdwara Sahib Taman Inderawasih (15 August 2015)


Gurdwara Sahib Perai (GPS: 5.38965, 100.3802) is the place of worship of the Sikh community in Perai. The gurdwara is located at Jalan Kikik in Taman Inderawasih, next to the Sri Kalikaambal Hindu Temple.

Gurdwara Sahib Perai traces its history back to 1927, when the Sikhs built their initial place of worship at the Prai Main Road. It occupied an attap wooden house, and this was the place of worship for the Perai Sikh community for the next seventy years, until it was demolished in 1997.

To replace the original gurdwara, a new structure was constructed beginning on 20 June, 1999. It was completed and open on 23 July, 2000, at a cost of RM627,500. The two storey building includes the inner sanctuary, or Darbar Sahib, which occupies the first floor. This is where the Sikh holy book, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is kept.
