Jalan Hamilton, George Town, Penang (19 May 2013)
Jalan Hamilton, originally known as Hamilton Road, is a road in the
Green Lane area. Originally a minor road, Jalan Hamilton has in the past couple of decades become one of the major roads due to residential developments surrounding it.
Jalan Hamilton starts at the interchange at Green Lane, where it connects with
Batu Lanchang Lane via the
Jalan Hamilton Flyover. It ends at the
Free School Road Roundabout.
Convent Green Lane and
Heng Ee High School are two major schools, each located at either ends of Jalan Hamilton. Being the main access road in the area, Jalan Hamilton forms junctions with
Hutchings Garden,
Pinhorn Road,
Van Praagh Road, Green Garden 1 and Green Garden 3.
Jalan Hamilton itself was named after W. Hamilton, who served as the headmaster of
Penang Free School from 1925 to 1926. The school honours him by naming one of the sport houses after him. The Hamilton House has yellow as its house colour. All the roads bordered by Jalan Hamilton and
Free School Road, to the south of Penang Free School, were named after past headmasters of the school.
