Inside the climate-controlled barn at Happy Goat Farm (24 May 2015)
Happy Goat Farm (GPS: 5.37694, 100.19941) is a goat farm in Balik Pulau. Established in 2010, it is one of the most advanced goat farms in the country. Occupying a five-acre plot in Permatang Pasir, Balik Pulau, Happy Goat Farm has about 120 goats comprising around 60 does and 60 kids. The type of goats bred at Happy Goat Farm is the Saanen, a Swiss breed named after the Saanen Valley in Switzerland.
Happy Goat Farm produces various goat dairy products such as frozen goat milk, fresh raw goat milk, goat milk kefir, goat cheese spread, goat yogurt, goat milk colostrum, goat milk panna cotta, goat milk chocolate and goat milk soap. These are products made directly by the farm or by its dealers, and marketing in Penang as well as Kuala Lumpur.

However, being a production farm rather than one geared for tourist visits. While the farm is keen to welcome visitors and give them an experience in learning about farm animals and the wonders of nature, it is not geared to accept sundry visitors that arrive unannounced. Those interested to visit should contact the farm in advance so that they can be properly received. Before entering the climate controlled barn, visitors are to wash their hands to prevent any contamination to the goats. Also, visitors are discouraged from visiting other farms prior to their visit to Happy Goat Farm to avoid cross contamination.
Happy Goat Farm is stringent in warding off viruses and bacteria that can harm the goats. At the climate controlled barn, the temperature inside the barn is kept constant. The animals at the farm are grass fed, with the grass coming from the pasture surrounding the farm itself. One of the advantages of running the farm in a warm country such as Malaysia, as opposed to a temperate climate, is that grass is available throughout the year. This helps keep the production cost down.

The high quality control at Happy Goat Farm results in goat dairy products that are of premium quality and taste, and without any "goat adour".
My wife and I visited Ivan SH Ho, the owner of Happy Goat Farm, on 24 May, 2015. We were warmly received and taken on a tour of the place. The goats in the farm all seem so friendly and playful.

Visiting Happy Goat Farm
Ivan would be pleased to have you visit his farm, but considering it is located on the "other side" of Penang Island, and his workers could not provide the required customer attention, would-be visitors should make an appointment with him beforehand. The farm often receives groups from the factories for teambuilding activity as well as school groups on outings. Ivan will advise you of the entrance fee based on your group size.

How to go to Happy Goat Farm
The route to Happy Goat Farm is quite straightforward - once you know how to go there. From Jalan Sungai Rusa opposite Botanica.CT (Google Maps is completely wrong), take Jalan Kampung Permatang Pasir (as shown below).
Jalan Kampung Permatang Pasir (24 May 2015)
The road will gradually narrow to a village road. Continue on down the road.
Go straight on along Jalan Kampung Permatang Pasir (24 May 2015)
As you leave the village behind, you enter a palm oil plantation. Eventually you come to a T-junction where the paved road curves to the left. Take instead the unpaved laterite road to the right.

The journey to the farm is another kilometer or so, and on the way, you will see the oil palms on both sides of the road.

Eventually the road forks into two again. Happy Goat Farm is located near the left branch of the fork.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
