Jalan Hargreaves, formerly known as
Hargreaves Road, is a minor road in the
Green Lane area of
George Town, Penang. It starts at Green Lane and heads east, where it ends at
Lilitan Hargreaves (Hargreaves Circus). It also branches to
Halaman Hargreaves.
Hargreaves Road was named after William Hargreaves, who served as the headmaster of Penang Free School from 1891 until 1904. The school honoured him by having one of the sport houses named Hargreaves. The Hargreave House has brown as its house colour. He took appointment as the first headmaster of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, which he served from 1905 to 1918.
Getting there
Hargreaves Road is not served by public transport. The nearest bus stop is along Green Lane, where
Rapid Penang 206 and
304 pass through.
