In Penang, large coffee shops are usually called hawker centres. If they are located within a shopping mall, they are often known as food courts. There are a number of large hawker centres in Penang, and on this page, I provide you a list of these Penang Hawker Centres.

The set-up of a hawker centre is similar to a coffee shop, in that you will find individual stalls selling a number of dishes. Depending on the size of the hawker centre, there would not be any duplication in the dish sold by the hawkers, although in very large hawker centres, there may be different hawkers selling the same hawker food at different parts of the establishment.

As with the coffee shop, the proprietor of the hawker centre manages the sale of drinks and other form of beverages. Occasionally, there would be a separate stall selling iced desserts, though this may also be taken up by the proprietor. In order to attract patrons, many of the large hawker centres offer ample parking space that is usually free of charge.
