Hean Boo Suah Temple, Balik Pulau (20 December 2008)
Hean Boo Suah (Traditional/Simplified Chinese: 玄武山) is a temple in
Balik Pulau. Also known as
Xuan Wu Temple, it is located off the main road. Believed to have been built in the 19th century, Hean Boo Suah has been renovated and expanded a few times.
At the entrance pavilion is a bell smelted in 1895. The feast days of Hean Boo Suah is in the months of March and July every year. During these times, Chinese operas are performed for the entertainment of the patron deities.
Getting there
Take bus to the
Balik Pulau Bus Terminal, then walk to the junction between
Jalan Balik Pulau and
Jalan Tun Sardon. From the junction, turn right, walk northeast on Jalan Balik Pulau and look for a sign board for Chinese temple just before
Sekolah Kebangsaan St George Balik Pulau. Follow the side road to reach the temple.
