Oktoberfest 2018 at Golden Sands Resort Penang (17 October 2018)
For the first time ever, Golden Sands Resort Penang is hosting Oktoberfest. It was an opportunity to sample German beer, German grilled sausages, chicken schnitzel and sauerkraut. The festivity was held yesterday, 17 October, 2018, on the lawn of SIGI's Bar & Grill. There was quite a crowd, composed of guests as well as regular diners. My wife and I were privileged to join a small group of social media influencers in enjoying the festivities.
SIGI's was transformed into a mini Bavarian village, complete with checked tablecloth that is reminiscent of the Bavarian flag. We sat on long benches, just like we were in a Munich Beer Hall, and dug into the German fare.
Oktoberfest started in Munich as the feast in celebration of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on 12 October, 1810. From then on, it has transformed into an annual festival, growing from strength to strength, interrupted only at times of war or cholera epidemic. Beer only made its appearance at the fest in 1892.
The Frankenräuber band - imported straight from Germany - keep the crowd in the Oktoberfest mood, right from the start. The highlight was when they brought out the Alphorn, possibly the longest horn, used by mountain dwellers in the Swiss, Austrian and Bavarian Alps.
Okay, enough talking. Now let me show you in pictures. I hope you enjoyed the atmosphere. We are most thankful to Golden Sands Resort for inviting us to this big party.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
