George Town, Penang, 20 April, 2019 - Giving back to the community has always been Hard Rock Hotel Penang's commitment to its motto - "Take Time To Be Kind". Since its launch in July 2018, the hotel has quacked up a good cause to raise funds for SJKC Poay Wah, a national Chinese primary school in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. Funds collected from selling 10,000 of Hard Rock Hotel Penang limited-edition rubber ducks were used to upgrade the school's facilities such as building a new guardhouse, a metal roof and concrete floors for the students' walkway, purchasing new electronic equipment such as a LCD projector set and screen, speakers, amplifiers and a LED letter screen.
Each duck was sold for RM10 nett each with three grand prizes - a two-night stay in a Seaview Deluxe room at Hard Rock Hotel Penang (total value of RM2,300), a two-night stay in a Lagoon Deluxe room at Hard Rock Hotel Penang (total value of RM2,800) and a three-night stay in the legendary King Suite inclusive of a RM500 cash voucher (total value of RM16,000). A total of 10,000 ducks were sold over the past eight months and another 10,000 ducks were released into the swimming pool at the hotel during the Rock-A-Duck lucky draw event day.
Y.B. Zairil Khir Johari, Penang State Executive Councillor (Public Works, Utilities & Flood Mitigation) attended the Rock-A-Duck lucky draw event on 20 April 2019 and selected three lucky ducks from the swimming pool. A mock cheque of RM65,000 was presented to the head mistress from SJKC Poay Wah, Puan Lian Poh Lai. With the donated funds, Hard Rock Hotel Penang has granted the school with the upgraded facilities during the recent school holiday in March 2019.
"We are truly blessed to have dedicated volunteers from Hard Rock Hotel Penang and the kind support from donors. On behalf of the school, we would like to thank everyone who has made this campaign a success. Your kindness and generousity are very much appreciated," said Puan Lian Poh Lai, the headmistress of SJK C Poay Wah. "The students are overwhelmed with the new technology and having a shelter above their heads has certainly put a smile on their faces."
When asked about the Hard Rock's beliefs on philanthropy, Mr. John Primmer, general manager of Hard Rock Hotel Penang states, "Philanthropy is the heart and soul of the Hard Rock brand and Hard Rock Hotel Penang has been actively involved in giving back to the local community since its opening in 2009. We are thrilled to see another year of great success and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all supporters from our guests and people from all walks of life in this campaign."

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
