On 3-5 November, 2017, my wife and I were privileged to experience the hospitality of Royale Chulan Penang. We were treated so well throughout our stay. The moment we arrived at the hotel, we saw that a VIP parking lot has been reserved for us. After enjoying the welcome drink, we were escorted to our room. On the fruit table was a personalised welcome from Mr Theseira, the General Manager.
The hotel has installed us in their gorgeous suite, with a lovely view of the Penang Harbour. From our balcony, we could catch an uninterrupted view of the ferry terminal, and watch the ferries plying the channel between George Town and Butterworth. There are deck chairs for us to sit and enjoy the sea breeze.
That evening, the hotel General Manager, Mr Philip D. Theseira, hosted us to a dinner at the Poolside Bar. It was a lovely meal, and we had a great time getting to know each other and establishing a relationship. After the lovely dinner, we retired to our suite. It was a wet and rainy night.
The next morning, we enjoyed a brief moment of dry sky before the rain came. At first it was just a drizzle, so I was still able to go about taking some shots of the swimming pool area. But as it got heavier, I retreated indoors.

Miss Vayshnavee hosted us to lunch at The Spice Restaurant. It was a lovely set meal which we enjoyed while watching the rain coming down. Miss Vayshnavee had been such a lovely host to us throughout our stay, and we were so pleased for having gotten to know her.
After lunch, we went on a hotel tour. It is customary for me to do a room tour of every hotel that I visit, so that I can showcase to my readers who the rooms actually look like from my perspective. As far as possible, I avoid showing photos provided by hotels, as these do not provide my readers with what I actually saw.
After the room tour, we returned to our suite to rest. Then at 5:00pm that evening, we visited The Royale Spa for a massage session. My wife had the Aromatic Body Scrub & Oil Massage while I had the Aromatic Herbal & Traditional Thai Massage.
Dinner that evening was at Sri Tanjung Cafe. There was a buffet with lots of dishes. Outside it continued to rain heavily. We learned afterwards that it was the night when Penang was hit by the tailend of a typhoon. From our suite, we could see how choppy the sea was (and the next morning, we learned that one of the ferries was grounded on the mainland). But within our suite, we felt completely safe from the storm.
The next morning, we had our breakfast at the Executive Lounge. It is a very cosy place where we could enjoy some privacy, as there are very few guests up there. After breakfast, I went for a walk in the esplanade area, and saw many trees have fallen down due to the severe storm last night.
Our time of departure came so soon. We had such a lovely stay at Royale Chulan Penang. Our deepest appreciation to the entire Royale Chulan Penang team for giving us such a lovely time.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
