My wife and I were privileged to do a hotel review stay at Yeng Keng Hotel, on 2-4 March, 2018. The hotel is an oasis in the middle of busy Chulia Street, in George Town, Penang. It only has 19 rooms. On our first night, we occupied the Courtyard Room, which is a cosy, beautifully furnished room overlooking the swimming pool. On our second day, we were moved to the Yeng Keng Suite, the most luxurious suite in the hotel. Both the Courtyard Room and Yeng Keng Suite are equally comfortable, though the latter is hugely more spacious, with its own separate living room and patio.
The first evening of our visit was Chap Goh Meh, the 15th and final day of Chinese New Year. After we have settled down at the hotel, we walked down Chulia Street, and discovered a lot of hawker food to eat at the Cheapside Hawker Centre, which I described in the video below.
After that, we continued walking till we arrived at the Esplanade, which was very happening that evening, due to the Chap Goh Meh celebrations.
On the morning of the second day, we had our breakfast at Yeng Keng Café located next to the hotel. The spread was quite good for a small hotel. After breakfast, I met up with Miss Miyco Lim, the Managing Director of M-Inspired, a hospitality consulting company, who is presently managing the hotel, together with Miss Yeoh Sin Looi, the hotel manager. Together, they took us on a room tour, so that I could get the photos to display on this website.
We went out for lunch, and when we returned, we were surprised to find a bottle of French red wine on our coffee table. It was such a lovely gesture in the part of the hotel. We decided that we would not waste the bottle of wine between ourselves, and took it home with us, so that we could enjoy it with friends on another day - that would give us a chance to tell people about Yeng Keng's wonderful hospitality towards us.
Later that day, we had a swim in Yeng Keng's swimming pool. Though not a very big pool, it has a nice play to relax. Our three days at Yeng Keng Hotel passed faster than I could imagine, and pretty soon, we was time to leave.
For both mornings, we had our breakfast at Yeng Keng Café. On the first morning, there was Hokkien Mee, which was very tasty; on the second morning, there was Koay Teow Thng, which is not as interesting as the Hokkien Mee.
With just nineteen rooms, Yeng Keng Hotel is possibly the smallest hotel we've ever stayed in for a hotel review. It is also one of the nicest hotels along Chulia Street. We are very thankful to the management of the hotel for giving us the opportunity to experience its hospitality and to showcase it here.

Size of rooms and length of swimming pools can be measured, but hospitality can only be experienced. Understanding this, the numerous hotels in Penang have extended to me the opportunity to experience their hospitality so that I can showcase what they offer to guests on this website. About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
