Buland Darwaza, which means "Gate of Magnificence" is a massive gateway leading to the compound of the Jami Masjid in Fatehpur Sikri. It was erected by Akbar in 1602, to commemorate his victory over Deccan and conquest of Gujarat. It is the highest and grandest gateway in India and ranks among the biggest in the world. Buland The gate stands 40 metres tall, and is approached by a grand staircase of 42 steps.
The giant-size Buland Darwaza is approached from the outside by a 13-metre flight of steps which adds to its grandeur. The Buland Darwaza was erected in 1602 AD to commemorate Akbar's victory over Deccan.
