Ichalkaranji (Marathi: इचलकरंजी) is a city on the southern part of the state of Maharashtra, India. Located 425 km (264 mi) from Mumbai, it has a population of 420,000 people (2012 estimate).
The history of Ichalkaranji goes back to the 17th century. The dynasty ruling Ichalkaranji is said to begin with Naro Mahadeo, a young boy who caught the attention of a general of Chattrapati Shivaji.
Today Ichalkaranji is one of the wealthiest cities in India with among its highest per capita income. It has a diverse economy based on textile and engineering. The city is often labelled the Manchester of Maharashtra, as it has one of the fastest growing industrial sites in the country.

You can take trains on the Mumbai-Bangalore line to Miraj. From there, take a bus or taxi to Ichalkaranji, a distance of 28 km.
