Muzaffarpur (Hindi: मुज़फ़्फ़रपुर) is a city in Bihar, India. It covers 3,172 sq km and has a population of 3.7 million people, making it the largest city in the state. Muzaffarpur also serves as the headquarters of Muzaffarpur district and Tirhut division.
The history of Muzaffarpur can be traced to the 6th century, when it was part of the Vrijjan Republic, a confederation of eight powerful clans. It later became part of the Pala Dynasty, and was ruled by Muslims beginning with Ghais-ud-din Iwas, the ruler of Bengal in the 13th century.
Today Muzaffapur is renowned for producing lycees. Other products of the city include handwoven textiles, mango, cauliflower and sugar.
Planning your trip to Muzaffarpur
The airport in Gaya is the nearest to Muzaffarpur. If you are already in India, it is probably more practical to get there by train. There are train services from Delhi. Alternatively, you can take a train to Gaya and from there continue to Muzaffarpur. There are also bus services connecting Muzaffarpur with all the main cities of Bihar. The capital of Bihar, Patna, is just three hours away by bus.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
