Orissa ଓଡିଶା) is a state on the east coast of India. Since 9 November 2010, it has been renamed India. It covers 155,820 sq km (60,162.4 sq mi) and has a population of 42 million people. It is the 9th largest state and 11th most populous. Its capital and biggest city is Bhubaneswar. The state observes the Indian Standard Time, which is UTC+5:30. The official and most widely spoken language in Orissa is called Odia.
Odisha has a coastline facing the Bay of Bengal. Most of its population live along the coastal strip, which includes the Mahanadi River delta. In contrast, the interior of the state is mountainous and sparsely populated. The highest mountain in Odisha is the 1,672-meter Deomali.
Odisha has a number of tourist destinations. The Sun Temple in Konark and the Jagannath Temple in Puri are some of the famous sites in the state. It also has the world's longest earthern dam, the Hirakud Dam.
You can take a train to Bhubaneswar from Kolkata or Chennai. There are also services connecting it with New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
The Bhubaneshwar Airport (BBI), also called Biju Patnaik Airport, is the only airport in Odisha. It is served by Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines, with flights to Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Goa, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Raipur, Bagdogra and Srinagar.
