Satna (Hindi: सतना) is a city on the northeastern part of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the headquarters of Satna District, which covers 7,502 sq km (2,897 sq mi), near the border with
Uttar Pradesh.
Satna was named after the Satna river, also called the Sutna, which flows through it. It has a long history and was mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Chitrakoot near Satna is where the Ramayana is said to have been written. A Buddhist stupa from the 2nd century was found in nearby Bharhut provides.
Planning your trip to Satna
Satna has a small airport that receives flights from Delhi and Varanasi. It is however probably more convenient to go there by train, as there are services to major cities in India.
