Tezpur (Assamese: তেজপুৰ) is a city in the state of Assam in India. It has a population of about 100,000 people and serves as the headquaters of the district of Sonitpur.
The name Tezpur is derived from Sanskrit meaning "city of blood" - incidentally Sonitpur also carries the same meaning. Today the city is the 8th largest in Assam. But rather than blood, the city brands itself as the "city of love", based on a mythological love story involving the Hindu deities Krishna, Shiva, Parvati and a devotee of Shiva, Banasur.
Today Tezpur is regarded as the cultural capital of Assam. It has a number of historical ruins and scenic views, one of which is the view on the Kolia Bhomora Setu Bridge, the longest bridge across the Brahmaputra River. Tea production is a major industry here.
Planning your trip to Tezpur
You can reach Tezpur from Guwahati, a journey of about four hours by road. There are bus services between the two cities. There are also flights from Kolkata.
Let me take you to explore and discover Penang through my series of walking tours on YouTube. You may use these videos as your virtual tour guide. Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
