Thiruvananthapuram (Malayalam: തിരുവനന്തപുരം) is the capital of Kerala in South India. The city was also known in English as Trivandrum until 1991, when the government reinstated the original name. It is on the west coast of India, close to the southernmost part of the country. With a population of close to 745,000 people, Thiruvananthapuram is the largest city in Kerala. The name Thiruvananthapuram means "Abode of the Lord Ananta" in Malayalam, in reference to the Hindu deity whose temple is in the centre of the city.

Thiruvananthapuram experiences a climate that is between a tropical savanna climate and a tropical monsoon climate. Temperature is fairly constant throughout the year, with the average low of around 23°C and the average high of around 31°C. Having said that, the period from October to February are cooler, and are the best period to visit. If you wish to see the Onam festival, then the time to go is around end of August and early September. There are two wet seasons in a year, one in May and another in October. The months of January and February are the driest.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
