Tiruchirappali (Tamil: தி௫ச்சிராப்பள்ளி) is the fourth biggest city in Tamil Nadu. Often called Trichy, it is known as being the cleanest city in India. Tiruchirappalli is located 320 kilometers south of Chennai and 400 kilometers north of Kanyakumari, at the geographical centre of Tamil Nadu.
Tiruchirappalli is believed to have been named after Trishira, a three-headed demon from Hindu mythology. It is today a prominent industrial and educational hub for Tamil Nadu. Along with Madurai, it is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the state. The town of Uraiyur, which is now a suburb of present-day Tiruchirappalli, was a capital of an early Cholas kingdom from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD. Not far from Uraiyur is the oldest man-made dam.
Tiruchirappalli experiences a hot tropical climate. The middle part of the year is very hot, with average high temperatures of 41°C. The coolest time are from mid October to early January, when temperature can drop to 18°C.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
