Batuan is an ancient village in Gianyar, Central Bali. Its history goes back a thousand years, to a more glorious age when it had more nobility than commoners.
Batuan is today renowned for the artistic talent of its people in the fields of painting, dance and architecture. The Batuan style of painting is known for its mersmerizing detail and restricted color palette.
The village temple of Batuan, Pura Puseh, is a magnificent structure embellished with intricate stone carvings. It was restored in 1992.
Gambuh, an ancient court dance performance, is staged here on the 1st and 15th of each month. This is a chance for people to see this rarely performed dance.
