Batubulan is a village in Central Bali, to the northwest of Denpasar. Its name means "moon stone". It is a crafts village with a thriving cottage industry concentrating on the making of "instant antique" furniture and traditional stone carving.

As you pass through the village, you can see the road lined with shops selling Balinese "antique" furniture and carvings of mythological figures.

The village temple of Batubulan, Pura Puseh, make good use of Bali's gray stone, paras, which is quarried from the river gorges. The soft texture of paras lends itself well to stone carving as well as for use in building construction.

Batubulan has a number of Barong dance troupes. You can view a performance of the Barong at Pura Puseh every alternate week. In the intervening weeks the troupe will be performing at the village's community pavilion, or bale banjar.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
