Blahbatu is a village in Gianyar, Central Bali. It is best known for its landmark giant baby statue which was built in the 1990's. The statue depicts the village giant, Kebo Iwo, as a baby.
According to the story, the building of the baby statue came about through the urging by the women of a neighboring village, to placate a demon that was claiming the lives of their children.
Blahbatu is also the site of Vihara Amurva Bhumi Blahbatu, a large Chinese temple whose architecture incorporates elements of Buddhism and Hinduism. The temple was expanded in 1999, and is a center of worship for Chinese Buddhist in Bali.
Also located in Blahbatu is the Sidha Karya Gong Foundry, which specilizes in Balinese gongs. It was established by renowned gongmaker I Made Gabeleran.
About three kilometers north of Blahbatu is the village of Kutri. Here, you can find the temple of Pura Bukit Dharma Kutri, which has statue of the goddess Durga killing a bull. The statue, partly effaced, is believed to date to the 11th century.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
