Jagaraga is a village in northern Bali. It was here that in 1849 fierce battle broke out between Balinese resistence forces and the Dutch colonial army. The local hero Patih Jelantik put up a long stand-off against the Dutch. Though he was eventually put down, he remained in the minds of the locals as a hero.

The local temple Pura Dalem provides a vivid reflection of the relationship between the Dutch and the locals in its lively caricature reliefs. Carved in the early decades of the 20th century, the reliefs depict modern objects such as aeroplanes and ships.

About 4 km from Jagaraga is the village of Sangsit. There is a temple here, Pura Beji, that is famous for its exquisite ornamentation, especially of the mythical Garuda birds. Sangsit's Pura Dalem has carvings of a different subject; they depict various forms of torture that evil people can expect in hell.

4 km south of Jagaraga is another village, Sawan, popular across Bali for producing the best local rice. A tourist sight in Sawan is its river gorge. The village is also popular for its traditional dance and music.

12 km from Sangsit is the beach resort of Air Sanih. It has a beach restaurant. You can find only basic accommodation here.
