Petulu is a village to the north of
Ubud. Unlike the surrounding villages in Central Bali, Petulu's call to fame has nothing to do with handicrafts, but instead birds. This is the place to view the white-plumed egrets and the Java pond egrets. The birds can be seen all over Bali, but by evening they return to Petulu to roost in the trees lining the road.
The birds have chosen Petulu as their home since 1965. It is not known why the birds decided to settle in Petulu.
