Sangeh is a forested area in central Bali. As with many forested places on the island, it teems with monkeys. The forest also has tall nutmeg trees, some reaching the height of 40 meters.
Located off the main road in the forest of Sangeh is Pura Bukit Sari, the local temple. As the temple also has its own resident monkeys, you should approach it with caution. The monkeys are considered sacred animals, following a tradition from the
Ramayana epic, where the hero Prince Rama allied himself to a troop of monkeys to attack the evil demon king Rawana.
