Tabanan is the name of a regency (kabupaten) as well as administrative center in Bali. The regency straddles Central and West Bali, covering an area of 849 sq km and has a population of close to 387,000 people, as of 2000.

Within the regency of Tabanan is Batukaru, at 2,276 meters, the second highest peak in Bali. It is also home to the town of Mengwi, which was once the center of an important ancient kingdom.

The town of Tabanan itself is a bustling commercial center. Among the sights here include Taman Kupu-Kupu and Museum Subak.

Taman Kupu-Kupu or Bali Butterfly Park is a small butterfly park with hundreds of butterflies from 15 different species. It was founded in 1996, and is located about 7 km on the road between Tabanan and Panebal.

Museum Subak is a museum on traditional Balinese irrigation and agriculture. The museum will appeal only to those with a keen interest in viewing farming tools and agriculture work. There are items related to rice harvesting, crop conservation, and so on.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
