Tao Island, Lake Toba (29 April 2006)
Tao Island (GPS: 2.7632, 98.74209), or
Pulo Tao, is a small island to the east of
Samosir Island in Lake Toba. It is located close to the village of
Simanindo, where Batak cultural shows are performed. I visited Tao Island with a small group of AsiaExplorers members when we were Lake Toba. We stopped over here for just a short visit, on our way to Simanindo.
There is a small resort on Tao Island, a perfect place for people who want to get away to somewhere quiet. Tao Island is labelled as Honeymoon Island, but if I were to honeymoon here, I will go crazy for lack of things to do. It is just a small island that can be explored in half an hour, which is as much time as we spent here.
I saw some broken down chalet with the traditional curved roof. They are in a dilapidated state, so I am not sure where would anybody be staying if they chose to overnight on Tao Island.
The view from Tao Island is quite scenic. On the left is Samosir Island. (29 April 2006)

Here's the resort on Tao Island, where the only link to the outside world is this satellite dish. (29 April 2006)
The eating area of the resort. I think they have more chairs than they need. (29 April 2006)
