Jalan Bayan Lepas, Penang (6 January 2017)
Jalan Bayan Lepas is the main road through
Bayan Lepas town. It is part of Federal Route 6 that goes through the northern, western and southern parts of
Penang Island. It connects with
Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, at the junction of Jalan Garuda, in the east and
Jalan Teluk Kumbar, at the intersection with
Jalan Permatang Damar Laut and
Jalan Kampung Bukit, in the west. Jalan Bayan Lepas used to be a narrow road though the village, with double storey shophouses on both sides.
With increased traffic flow from
Teluk Kumbar and
Balik Pulau, a 207.7-million road widening project was carried out from February 2017 until 2017; it was officially declared completed in March 2018. The project involved the widening of Jalan Bayan Lepas and the construction of a flyover connecting it to Jalan Teluk Kumbar. Also build is an elevated U-turn. It required the demolition of the shophouses on one side of the road and the reconstruction of the village police station.
Updates on Jalan Bayan Lepas
2 March, 2018
The Star reports that the RM207.7million upgrading of Jalan Bayan Lepas is now completed. The project includes the upgrading of two overhead bridges, construction of a four-lane 750-meter flyover linking Jalan Bayan Lepas to Jalan Teluk Kumbar, and the construction of an elevated U-turn. This upgrading exercise has helped to smoothen traffic flow, particularly the congestion at the intersection with Jalan Permatang Damar Laut.
