Jalan Khemah, Bukit Gelugor, Penang (22 January 2020)
Jalan Khemah is a small hill road in
Bukit Gelugor, on the southern part of
George Town, Penang. It is the road that runs up the hill, forming junctions with the other roads that encircle Bukit Gelugor such as
Lengkok Bawah,
Jalan Pekeliling and Lengkok Atas. Jalan Khemah reaches down from the top of Bukit Gelugor to its foot, where it is met by two roads,
Jalan Utara in the north and
Jalan Selatan in the south. These two run parallel to present-day
Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
The name "khemah" means "camp". This is probably due to the encampment of the Police Volunteer Reserve in the area in the mid 20th century, when the land was developed from plantation land for residential purposes.
Getting there
Rapid Penang 206 stops along Green Lane, near the junction with
Yeap Chor Ee Road. From there, walk along Jalan Utara to reach Jalan Khemah.
