Jalan Mahsuri, Bayan Baru (21 November 2015)
Jalan Mahsuri is one of the major roads in
Bayan Baru, Penang. In fact, it was the road to be laid in Bayan Baru when the townshop was established in the 1970's. The road was named after Mahsuri, a rice hybrid which is a cross between a Kedah strain with a Taiwanese strain of rice. The rice itself was named after Mahsuri, the legendery Langkawi maiden.
The oldest section of Jalan Mahsuri runs from the junction with
Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah to the junction of
Jalan Mayang Pasir. Over the decades, Jalan Mahsuri was extended until it eventually linked up with
Jalan Tun Dr Awang.
