Jalan Trusan, Sungai Pinang

Jalan Trusan road sign (6 October 2012)

Jalan Trusan is a minor road in the Sungai Pinang part of George Town, Penang. It runs roughly parallel to River Road, which degenerates from a proper road to a country path moving west towards Perak Lane. Jalan Trusan likewise connects Jalan Sungai Pinang with Perak Lane.

The word trusan is an archaic form of the Malay word terusan, meaning "canal", though evidence of one is not immediately visible today. As with the rest of the Sungai Pinang area, Jalan Trusan is presently undergoing urbanisation. The eastern side approaching Sungai Pinang Road has been industrialised, which the western side is still largely rural, but the days of the rural houses are likely numbered. It is not surprising if the area becomes another high-rise neighbourhood in the next five years.

Getting there

The nearest bus stop is along Sungai Pinang Road, about 2-3 minutes from the junction with Jalan Trusan. There are no bus stops on the Perak Lane end, so if you intend to reach the far end of Jalan Trusan, it will be a 15-minute walk from the Sungai Pinang bus stop. Rapid Penang bus 301 and 401 stop there.
