Jalan Zoo, formerly Zoo Road, is a road in Air Itam, Penang. As with many of the roads in George Town that developed out of country paths, Jalan Zoo is extremely fragmented. It is not possible to drive from one end of Jalan Zoo to the other.
The northernmost portion runs from Jalan Air Itam to end at Sungai Air Itam. The middle portion of Jalan Zoo emerges in Kampung Melayu. It connects with Jalan Pisang Embun near Lintang Zoo, and continues to the junction with Jalan Kampung Pisang, where it once again disappears. Jalan Zoo reemerges the third and final time in Farlim, between Solok Zoo 1 and Jalan Ru 1, to end at Lebuhraya Thean Teik. This is the southern portion of the road.
Jalan Zoo got its name from a private zoo that was established there in the early 20th century. No trace of that zoo remains today.
13 February, 2016The Star reports (Roads being widened for bypass) Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai saying that roads in Kampung Pisang are being widened to complement the construction of the 4.6 km bypass to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. The section of Jalan Zoo off Jalan Air Itam with the section in Kampung Pisang so that those staying in the Jalan Air Itam and Reservoir Garden areas can easily access the elevated bypass to the expressway. Construction of the bypass is expected to start in June 2016 and scheduled for completion in 2019.
Getting to Jalan Zoo

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
