James Richardson Logan (23 February 2009)
James Richardson Logan is the famous lawyer honoured with the
Logan Memorial. He is best remembered among the locals in Penang for fighting for their rights at a time when non-European rights are often suppressed. He was a lawyer and proprietor of a newspaper in Penang. This tomb also contains the remains of his brother Abraham Logan.
Logan is said to be the person who coined the term "Indonesia" for the Dutch East Indies. He is remembered with the
Logan Memorial as well as
Logan Road in Penang. Logan was born in 1819 and died in 1869. His remains were buried at the Protestant Cemetery in George Town, Penang.
