Chubu is the central region of the island of
Honshu, Japan. In fact the very name Chubu means "central region". Sandwiched between the Kanto region and Kansai region, Chubu comprises nine prefectures namely Aichi, Fukui, Gifu, Ishikawa, Nagano, Niigata, Shizuoka, Toyama and Yamagata.
Chubu region is at the widest part of Honshu island. The Japanese Alps are located here, forming a sort of backbone that divides the elongated island between the Pacific coast and the Sea of Japan coast. The region has a population of around 22 million people (2011 estimate).
