Ichinomiya (Japanese: 一宮市) is the fourth largest city in
Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It covers 114 sq km (44 sq mi) and has a population of 378,000 people (2012 estimate).
The name Ichinomiya means "first shrine". This refers to the Masumida Shrine of Owari Province. The city was founded in 1921. It was given "special city" status in 2002. In 2005 it annexed the city of Bisai and the town of Kisogawa.
