Kitakyushu (Japanese: 北九州市) is one of the major cities in Fukuoka Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu, in southern Japan. Its geographic location places it roughly midway between Tokyo and Shanghai.
Kitakyushu covers 487 sq km (188 sq mi) and has a population of 983,000 people (2012 estimate). The city comprises seven wards or neighbourhoods called "ku", namely Kokurakita-ku, Kokuraminami-ku, Moji-ku, Tobata-ku, Yahatahigashi-ku, Yahatanishi-ku and Wakamatsu-ku. The merger of Nakama with Kitakyushu in 2005 was unsuccessful, otherwise Nakama would have become the 8th ward of the enlarged city.
The present city of Kitakyushu was founded in 1963 when the five municipalities merged around the ancient feudal city of Kokura. For those planning to visit it, you should coincide your trip with either the Tobata Gion Yamagasa Festival or the Wasshoi Hyakuman Matsuri.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
