Koriyama (Japanese: 郡山市) is a city in the Nakadori region, in the central part of
Fukushima Prefecture,
Japan. It covers 757 sq km (292 sq mi) and has a population of 336,000 people (2012 estimate), making it the second largest conurbation in the
Tohoku Region of northern
Honshu.
Located about 55 km (34 mi) from the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, Koriyama was outside the evacuation zone of the 2011 Nuclear Accident following the Tohoku Earthquake.

Planning your trip to Koriyama
There are a number of trains connecting Koriyama with Tokyo. The high-speed Tohoku Shinkansen covers the journey in 80 minutes (¥7970) while the regular Tohoku Main Line train covers the same journey at a slower and cheaper rate. By road, take the Tohoku Expressway. You can also fly in, arriving at Fukushima Airport about 20 km to the south. The airport receives flights from
Okinawa,
Osaka and
Sapporo, among others.
