Kamigamo Shrine (GPS: 35.05928, 135.75252) is one of the two Kamo Shrines along the Kamo River,
Kyoto. It is on the northern reaches of the river.
As with Shimogamo Shrine, Kamigamo is dedicated to the thunder deity. Its official name is Kamowakeikazuchi. A major feature of the shrine is its Haiden Hall, rebuilt in 1628. Also of interest here are its cones of white sand.
In the grounds of the Kamigamo Shrine are priests' residences, called
shake. Of these, the Nishimura House is open to the public.
