Mitaka (Japanese: 三鷹市) is a city in
Tokyo Metropolis adjacent to the special wards of central Tokyo. It covers 16.5 sq km (6.37 sq mi) and has a population of 177,000 people (2012 estimate).
Mitaka is best known perhaps for the Tamagawa Josui Canal which was built in 1653 and where novelist Osamu Dazai committed suicide in 1948.
