Nishitokyo (Japanese: 西東京市) is a city on the central northern part of
Tokyo Metropolis, adjacent to the special wards of central Tokyo. It occupies an area of 15.85 sq km (6.12 sq mi) and has a population approaching 200,000 people (2012 estimate).
Nishitokyo was formed only in 2001 by merging the cities of Hoya and Tanashi. The name means "West Tokyo". It borders
Nerima,
Kodaira,
Koganei,
Musashino, Niiza in
Saitama Prefecture and
Higashikurume.
