Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge across the northern part of Tokyo Bay connecting
Minato ward in Tokyo with the island of
Odaiba. It carries the Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route across the bay and is officially known as the Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge, but was given the name Rainbow Bridge by the public.
The Rainbow Bridge was constructed between 1987 and 1993. It is 798 meters (2,618 ft) long, with a mid span of 580 meters (1,903 ft). The towers are 126 meters tall, providing the roadway a 52 meter clearance over the bay. The towers are painted white, but at night are lit with red, white and green lights using special lamps powered by solar energy, giving it the rainbow colors of its name.
